Condition and Authenticity Sheet in very good condition with clean margins and a fresh impression. Frame shows light scuffs and small retouched spots on the mouldings. Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, approved with the ADAGP embossed dry stamp.

Cats were Tsuguharu Foujita's lifelong subject, and this composition is one of the most tender he ever made: a mother cat curled protectively around her kitten, the two bodies drawn together into a single crescent of soft fur. Foujita never turned his cats into caricatures. He studied their skeletons, their posture and the direction of their coats, and here the sleeping faces and the naturally folded paws show how closely he watched. The background is deliberately bare so that the fine ink-like contour line, the signature device of his Paris years, carries the whole image.

This is a seven-colour lithograph published in 2023 by the atelier Clot, Bramsen & Georges in Paris for Art Factory and St Art, Tokyo, under the authority of the Fondation Foujita and ADAGP. It is proof number 106 of an edition of 320, printed on BFK Rives white 250 gsm paper. Every impression in the edition was counted and approved with the ADAGP embossed dry stamp, which appears at the lower left of this sheet next to the hand-written edition number, and the artist's estate signature stamp appears at the lower right. The work is presented in its original gilt frame with a grey mount, and comes with the numbered certificate of authenticity mounted on the reverse.
